Architect & Architecture

What is an Architect?

Generally speaking, an architect is an individual who is professionally licensed in the field. They have specialized skills in the design of buildings and cityscapes. They are able to take a unique vision from communities or clients and transform them into real, usable, artistically appealing structures.

A professional architect will serve in a designated leadership role, bringing together the budgetary requirements, overall design, location restraints, purpose of the building, and any building material limitations into one balanced, unique design solution. Creativity, team leadership, and decision making are the key ingredients of a successful architecture project.

How is Architecture Perceived?

Architectural structures are often perceived as political and cultural symbols and as works of art. Many of the historical civilizations have been known for their architectural achievements. Well-known buildings such as the Roman Colosseum and the pyramids in Egypt are cultural symbols, a testament to architecture through the ages. Likewise, historical structures serve as an important link for public consciousness, regardless of whether or not scholars have made discoveries about the related historical civilizations in other ways. Cultures, regions, religions, and cities continue to be known by and identify themselves with their architectural monuments. Some architectural buildings evoke deep emotional feelings for various cultures across the world, especially if those structures represent a lost battle, lost way of life, or lost societies.
